Pilot Biomass Transport Project
Reducing wildfire risk and improving forest health by facilitating the transport of previously felled, unmerchantable woody biomass to productive end-use facilities
GSNR has entered into a $3.34 million Stewardship Agreement with the United States Forest Service to implement the Pilot Biomass Transport Project. This project will support the transportation and removal of previously felled biomass, roundwood, and hazardous fuels from the National Forest System lands. These materials will be delivered safely and efficiently to existing regional businesses supporting local and rural economic development.
Grizzly Flats Cull Deck Removal Project
The Grizzly Flats Cull Deck Removal Project, located within the Eldorado National Forest, represents the first project completed under GSNR’s broader Pilot Biomass Transport Project.
Since hauling operations commenced in December 2025, more than 400 truckloads (an estimated 10,325 green tons) of previously felled cull logs resulting from the Caldor Fire have been transported from the project area to three end-use facilities: Tuolumne Biomass, American Wood Fibers, and the Pacific Ultra-power Chinese Station woodyard.
Through this effort, low-value forest material that would have otherwise remained on the landscape has been diverted to productive uses, including renewable energy generation and wood products manufacturing, while supporting California’s forest products industry and reducing hazardous fuel loading.
Jaywalk Landings Removal Project – NOW ACCEPTING BIDS
The Jaywalk Landings Removal Project will support the removal and hauling of an estimated 8,265 Green Tons (GT) of material located at designated landings within the Lassen National Forest. GSNR has released a Request for Bid (RFB) for this project, which is currently open.
The successful bidder will be responsible for retrieving the designated material from the identified landings, chipping the material on site as required for transportation, and hauling the material to the end-use destination identified in its bid.
RFB submissions are due October 20, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
Find details about the project and open RFB at the link below.
Hammerhorn Deck Removal Project – NOW ACCEPTING BIDS
The Hammerhorn Deck Removal Project is being implemented through GSNR’s Pilot Biomass Transport Program and will support the removal and transportation of approximately 6,352 tons of previously felled cull logs from designated landings within the Mendocino National Forest. GSNR has released a Request for Bid (RFB) for this project, which is currently open.
The successful bidder will be responsible for removing the designated material and transporting it to the end-use destination identified in its bid.
RFB submissions are due October 20, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
